Ha!

Totally put up two 'I'm leaving' posts. I'd delete one, but it's kind of funny.

Headed Home

Well everybody, it's time for me to be hittin' the old dusty trail. Except... it's not dusty or a trail. Pretty much the exact opposite of that, really. Wet waves of the ocean taking me back to my new home. We leave Monday, be back in Woleai by Wednesday, I believe. It's been awesome catching back up with some of you and eating hamburgers. However, I'm very glad to be going back. Hope you're all well. Till next time...

Oh, and I'll post some entries about this training event if I find time before I leave. If not, check back in 'round about June.

On the waves again...

Well, time is almost up for me on mainland Yap. Training is starting later today, we hop a flight Monday to Fais (an outer island) to catch the ship that leaves Yap tomorrow, and then it's two days to Woleai on the waves. I was a bit concerned that we'd miss the ship and be stuck in Yap for months, but fortunately that isn't the case. I'm very excited to get back to Woleai. I miss my new home, family and community. It's time to get back. So, looks as though this online publication will be put on hold again. Sorry, y'all. But I think I put up plenty of reading material to tide you over until my next trip in (looks like that'll be in June for a second training session). Be well till then. You'll be in my heart and thoughts.

What-- Say What Are You Looking At?

Here's Woleai, starting with pictures from around my house, moving on to ones around the island (including the high school I teach at - flag raising). Then I have some shots from work days: replacing a roof and cleaning up the home of a family whose relative had died, which is a ritual for the fourth day after a funeral. Next is a day I felt especially good, I opened a coconut, did laundry, ran and got sunburned wicked bad. Pancake breakfasts have become a regular and AWESOME event, so I throw up some pics of that. Then a picture of Gita and I's garden, one of a guy widdling at the PTA meeting (made a cork for his tuba bottle), one of two kids playing tetherball (they use a plastic bag with cloths stuff in it and kick it instead of slapping/punching), and a cool sunset w/local canoe. Then come the Christmas celebration pictures, my favorite is the one with a guy in sunglasses awkardly posed - he and my host mom (to his right) were doing some SERIOUS booty shaking to a hip-rattling beats. Finally, there are pictures from the going away men's circles I attended. They threw those for a few other guys and myself the weekend before the ship arrived. They were a blast. Don't you just love the last picture of my co-teacher Ramon? It was also his birthday, and he was having fun.
